Sometimes it is nice to work on something simple yet effective.
One of our existing customers needed a picking app but was not ready to invest in a warehouse management system. They also wanted to keep paper picking lists at the start of the workflow. Since they already used our business process management tool, they asked for something quick and easy as an add on.
Using the eForms capabilities, master data we already had, and a small amount of custom JavaScript to enable barcode scanning via a phone or tablet camera, I built a proof of concept that shows how:
• A user can scan a barcode on an existing paper picking list
• The barcode links back to the items on the order and populates a table with each one
• The user can select the item they are picking, scan a location code where the item is stored, and the eForm validates the pick
• The user enters the quantity picked, which is also validated
• The completed form can be submitted and stored for future reference
Simple and effective.
